TBP: Army says five soldiers wounded in suicide attack in Tamil Nadu

BYMANDU JEN/NEWS21 staffThe army has arrested five soldiers in the suicide attack on its troops in south Tamil Nadu on Monday that killed one and wounded five others.

Army chief Gen. Satyendra Jain told reporters in the city of Tiruvannamalai that the five soldiers were on a patrol at around 6 p.m. local time when a suicide bomber launched a suicide attack.

“The army will take necessary action against those responsible,” he said.

The attack, which occurred in the vicinity of the army base in a rural area, left at least seven soldiers dead and five others wounded.

The attackers were killed, the army said in a statement.

Jain did not specify the attackers’ nationality.
