Singapore hockey team wins gold medal at WJC

SINGAPORE — The Singapore National Hockey League’s Singapore Olympians earned their third gold medal of the year on Saturday night when they defeated Switzerland 2-1 to win the gold medal in women’s hockey at the WJC in Helsinki, Finland.

The Singapore Olympian team scored two goals and had two assists, while Switzerland was not able to register any points in the game.

The team was led by defenseman Lillian Daley (Sydney Swans), who was named MVP of the tournament, while goalkeeper Kay Meng Kee (Syracuse) was named the league MVP.NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said in a statement that the medal for women’s ice hockey was a great honor.

“We are extremely proud to have such a strong team representing our country at this year’s WJC.

They have done a great job of building up their game and building up this country in such a short time,” he said.

The medal will be presented to the team during the opening ceremony at 7:30 p.m.

The medal ceremony will also be televised live on NBC Sports Network.
